'The Shape of Ideas'

Tate Liverpool and Rolls Royce Learning and Career Development Centre, Derby, 2004.

This was an innovative collaboration between Tate Liverpool and Rolls Royce to develop creative thinking processes to a group of engineering apprentices through sculpture. Gillian was the artist educator for the project and worked with 18 young people on a practical and theoretical programme of activities designed to develop their creative and critical thinking skills through engaging them in looking at, making and exhibiting contemporary art. Working in teams, the trainees made small, medium and large scale sculpture in a variety of media.

The results of the project were shown in three exhibitions:

'Chemistry I - creativity and innovation', Rolls Royce LCDC, Derby, 13 July 2004.

'Chemistry II - creative process and collaboration', Derby Museum and Art Gallery,
17 July - 22 August 2004.

'Chemistry III' - Tate Liverpool, 11 - 19 September 2004.
